Eisai Company, Ltd. (ESALY.PK)'s Cancer Drug Reverses Alzheimer's Symptoms

In what is seen as a major breakthrough in finding a cure for Alzheimer's, neuroscientists at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Ohio, have found that the use of a cancer drug quickly reversed Alzheimer's symptoms in mice in a study. The drug - Bexarotene, marketed in the United States by Eisai Inc. under the brand name Targretin, is already approved by the FDA for the treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, or CTCL skin cancer. Alzheimer's disease is characterized by a buildup of toxic amyloid beta peptide and amyloid plaques, which causes changes or deterioration in certain areas of the brain that control thinking, communication, and behavior.
